This is being highlighted in tribunals recently with the number of cases being taken to tribunal increasing 14 fold since the abolition of the tribunal fees.
As a whistleblower, you’re protected by law if you report any of the following:
- a criminal offence, eg fraud
- someone’s health and safety as being in danger
- risk or actual damage to the environment
- a miscarriage of justice
- the company is breaking the law
- you believe someone is covering up wrongdoing
Personal grievances such as bullying, harassment and discrimination aren’t covered by whistleblowing law, unless your particular case is in the public interest.
