The B Corp logo is easy to spot, but what it stands for matters far more than the badge itself.
That’s the thinking behind this year’s B Corp Month campaign. The logo is a sign of a business’s commitment to people, the planet and continuous improvement, but the real story is what sits behind it: the decisions, standards and actions that shape how a business operates every day.
And it’s a story with real momentum. B Corp now connects more than 10,000 businesses across 103 countries and 160 industries.
In our two years as a B Corp, we have felt the impact across the way we work at Blu Sky and have become a stronger, more resilient business because of it. In this blog, we want to look beyond the badge and focus on what becoming a B Corp can actually do for growing businesses.
A quick look at Blu Sky’s journey
Achieving B Corp certification in 2024 was an important milestone in a journey we were already on. It reflected the values-led approach we have always believed in and gave us a clearer framework for how we want to keep building the business.
Since then, we have continued to build on our ESG efforts, and that journey is still evolving. This year, our co-founder and CEO Jon has also become involved in B Local North East.
If you would like to read more about our own journey, you can explore our earlier B Corp blogs and our B Impact Report, where we share more detail on the steps we have taken so far.
Why B Corp matters beyond branding
For customers, partners and potential hires, the B Corp logo is a clear sign that a business takes its responsibilities seriously.
But the biggest value often comes from what the process changes internally. The B in B Corp stands for ‘benefit for all’ – and that’s the goal. Certification looks at governance, workers, community, environment and customers, pushing leadership teams to think more carefully about how decisions are made and who they affect.
Those are good questions for any business to ask.
Profit matters, but the strongest businesses are also built on clear values, good systems, accountability and a sense of purpose that lasts. B Corp gives businesses a framework to make that more concrete.
Better structure, better decisions
B Corp encourages businesses to step back and look at how they really operate.
That can mean rethinking decision-making, leadership, employee experience, environmental impact and accountability. For some businesses, that process brings more clarity. For others, it helps sharpen priorities and identify where they can improve. Either way, it can lead to a more intentional way of running the business.
Businesses come out of the process with stronger governance, clearer priorities and a better understanding of how their values show up in day-to-day decisions. That is important not just for ESG reporting or brand positioning, but for building a business that is more resilient over time.
Stronger culture from the inside out
Becoming a B Corp can also have a real effect on the people inside the business.
When a company is clearer about what it stands for, people often feel more connected to the work they do and the business they are helping to build. In a market where attracting and keeping good people is a challenge, that makes all the difference.
A stronger culture, a clearer sense of accountability and a more values-led identity can all help a business stand out for the right reasons.
Purpose and performance can go together
B Corp is sometimes framed as a values-led decision rather than a commercial one, but the data suggests the two can go hand in hand.
B Lab UK reported that between 2023 and 2024, small and medium-sized UK B Corps saw turnover growth of 23.2%, compared with the national average of 16.8%. Over the same period, employee headcount grew by 9.6%, while the national average fell by 0.5%.
That reflects something we have believed for a long time at Blu Sky: purpose and performance are not opposites. Businesses can raise standards, strengthen accountability and stay true to their values while still growing well.
