We caught up with floe founder Hamish Rutherford to find out how Blu Sky has supported the team, along with their future growth plans.
Tell us about floe
We set the business up 2 years ago after noticing the lack of coworking spaces north of Leeds. There are many cool buildings in Newcastle, countless underutilised spaces and people looking for a place to work from. floe was set up to make use of these spaces and bring communities together.
At the moment we’re expanding and will offer coworking as a service (CaaS) across the North East in places including Northumberland. CaaS is an excellent opportunity for business owners to add a revenue stream by offering up unused workspaces – and of course to make new connections. We care about creating communities built on trust, with a great work and leisure balance.
floe offers more than workspaces. Our hubs provide support, networks and help people grow connections with our social events too.
The right fit
We met Blu Sky through Barclays Eagle Labs and Josh came to work in our Newcastle space. We needed an accountant and it felt like the right fit. Blu Sky were real, friendly and approachable from the start. They don’t make accounting scary and confusing. The whole team are very much of the times and want to approach accounting in a far more modern way.
Planning for growth
At the moment, our year ends and corporation tax calculations are the main priority, but we will be doing some future planning with the Blu Sky team to prepare for our company growth in more depth. I know the Blu Sky team have done a lot of work with scaling businesses over the years, so they’ll be able to give me expert guidance.
Honest and non-judgemental
Working with Blu Sky has been an enjoyable experience, the team are really friendly and turn something mundane into something I can relate to. There’s an honest and non-judgemental approach, which has been greatly appreciated as we can ask questions and learn whenever we need to. The team has helped us grow and really support our outlook, values and mission.
floe X Blu Sky
There are plans on the horizon for the Blu Sky office so watch this space! We’re really looking forward to utilising the space and all of the social events we can organise, like paddle-boarding.
For floe, alongside our expansion, we want to create a Tech Incubator as we realised our members had collectively raised over £7 million investment and created 53 jobs in the first year of opening. The incubator will bring together the right people, access to venture capital advice, support, collaboration and guidance.
