Dangerous Don

We spoke with Dangerous Don founder, Thea Cumming to find out how Blu Sky has provided a financial director, helped forward plan, forecast, and secure funding.

Hi Thea, tell us about Dangerous Don!

I founded Dangerous Don back in 2015 following a trip to Mexico where I tried Mezcal for the first time and fell in love with the drink.

We work with independent producers to create truly unique Mezcal, which is made using artisanal methods that are hundreds of years old.

We’re now stocked in bars across the globe and closer to home in M&S food halls!

What made you decide to work with Blu Sky?

I was looking for someone to help me with my accounts and I was recommended Blu Sky from an industry contact. When I contacted the team, they were very approachable and efficient.

From the start Blu Sky’s London team made the whole process simple, they understood how packed my schedule was and how busy I would be on a day-to-day basis as a business owner.

They were prepared to step up and help me with my accounting, relieving me of the accounting responsibilities and allowing me to focus on running the business.

The team at Blu Sky have seen businesses grow and sell over the years, so they know what works and what doesn’t.

What have the Blu Sky team helped you with?

They took over my old accounts, payroll and VAT, organising and streamlining it all for me. At the time I didn’t have a full budget in place and didn’t really know where to start, so they worked with me to do a full financial review of the business. This helped me build a forecast for the next 3 years, which has really helped me with planning.

My point of contact, Steven, is effectively my financial director. He helps me prepare documents for investors, gives me an overview of where I am financially, in line with my goals and ambitions.

He’s also been able to advise and guide me through considerations such as applying for funding and hiring staff. Steven and the Blu Sky team helped me supply all the financial information needed for my most recent investment. They helped connect me with the right network of investors and 90% of my secured investment has been achieved through Blu Sky’s network, which I’m very grateful for.

Ultimately, Steven and the Blu Sky team have become an extension of my team. They get that as a business owner, I can’t always find the time to do all the research and attend all the events needed, so they help inform me and guide me through various processes.

What benefits has your business seen since working with Blu Sky?

My confidence has grown massively since working with Blu Sky. I feel like I have everything covered and I can rest easy knowing my accounts are taken care of.

I also feel even more secure, as I have an extra team to speak to regarding important business decisions. If I get a letter from HMRC, I can take a photo and send it to Blu Sky, who’ll tell me exactly what it means in layman’s terms!

The team has enhanced my understanding of Xero and can help me as my business grows. They’re always ready to help, whether it’s with reports, helping me secure funding or preparing reports for shareholders.
