Sustainability encompasses so many things, it can be difficult to know where to start or what matters most.

There’s been a noticeable shift in consumer behaviour, your businesses carbon footprint and dedication to protecting the planet can influence whether someone works with or buys from you.

It’s time to prioritise sustainability in business and to help you do exactly that, we’re sharing 5 reasons why you should start making positive changes.

The future of our planet matters to our whole team and our dedication to our sustainability journey isn’t something we keep quiet. We’ve embarked on our B Corp journey and pledged to be Net Zero Now by 2025.

Sustainability matters to your clients and customers

People care about the companies they’re buying from and whether they’re operating in a sustainable way.

Research conducted by The Round Up showed that:

  • 78% of global consumers feel sustainability is important.
  • 84% say that poor environmental practices will alienate them from a brand or company.
  • 63% have taken steps to moderate or modify their lifestyle.

The same research showed that younger generations (Gen X and Millennials) are changing their lifestyles to adopt sustainable buying habits.

This clearly shows a shift towards people wanting to protect the planet in any way they can. Something that we think will only grow as the climate crisis worsens.

Enhance your brand reputation

Committing to sustainability can enhance your overall reputation for a number of reasons. When you publicly commit to protecting the planet and share insights on what you’re doing to reduce your carbon footprint, you build trust with customers.

Being open about your commitment to the planet helps you build a positive brand reputation. And it also helps you attract top talent, as people who align with your values will want to work with you.

You can start small

Starting your sustainability journey may sound daunting, but it’s likely that you’ve already made some changes that you can roll out business wide.

If you’ve invested in a reusable water bottle for yourself, the next step could be eliminating single use water bottles from your workplace.

Install a water fountain, offer glassware, or roll out branded metal bottles.

Build long-term resilience

By adopting sustainable practices early, you can futureproof your business and build long-term resilience.

If you take action to diversify your supply chains and reduce dependency on unsustainable resources, you’re likely to better withstand future supply chain interruptions, price fluctuations and resource shortages.

You don’t have to do it alone

There are many organisations out there that can offer you guidance and support. You don’t need to start your sustainability journey on your own!

If you make a pledge with Net Zero Now (as we have), the team will help you calculate your carbon footprint. They also offer a clear and consistent methodology for measuring, monitoring and making reductions to your carbon emissions.
